Another application, another step ahead

Lugano | April 11, 2023

gr3n SA (“gr3n” or “The Company”), an innovative startup whose mission is to eliminate plastic waste issues on a global scale, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Alcantara S.p.A. (“Alcantara”), the Italian Company globally producing and marketing the unparalleled material under the registered trademark Alcantara®.

gr3n’s patented technology allows for PET plastic and polyester fiber waste to be upcycled into virgin-quality PET using MADE -Microwave Assisted DEpolymerization technology. The process allows gr3n to work with up to 30%contaminants, such as dyes, additives, and other impurities, including polyurethanes, polyamides, and cotton. MADE allows for the recycling of a broader range of polyester-based materials and will prevent otherwise unrecyclable materials to be landfilled or incinerated.

Toward a Change in the Automotive Industry and Beyond
gr3n and Alcantara, after positive tests at pilot scale, intend to collaborate and give new life to both post-industrial waste and post-consumer products. Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) for this collaboration, the two companies will join forces to recover “end-of -life” feedstock and production waste, and through depolymerization, they will obtain virgin like PET, for new applications.
